The Savior of the Body: The Saints’ Affirmation
The Savior of the Body: The Saints’ Affirmation
For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body.
Ephesians 5:23
One of the overwhelming marvels, to those of us whom God has saved by Free and Sovereign Grace, is that He has done it to us. We were born ‘dead in trespasses and sins.’ We were ‘by nature the children of wrath.’ We had no thought for God, but only for ourselves. We were strangers to Grace and to God, but the Father ordained that Christ should be ‘the Savior of the Body.’ The Son rendered perfect obedience in His Humiliation, and His Father honored Him in His Exaltation. The Spirit has applied, is applying, and shall yet apply, that which Christ has accomplished unto all for whom God intended it. Here is the Grand Affirmation of the Redeemed: We are saved for all eternity by the Blood of the Lamb. ‘Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound, that saved a wretch like me. I once was lost, but now am found; was blind but now I see.’ The Body of Christ is a redeemed Body. The Body of Christ is a righteous Body. The Body of Christ is a rejoicing Body. That which Christ has done needs never to be repeated. It is once done, well done, and its effects will last throughout all eternity. Here is the great security of the saints of God. He has done the work. We are safe in Him. This is ‘Redemption, Accomplished and Applied.’
Our most Gracious, Saving God,
we praise You for the perfection of Your plan,
for the utter spotlessness of Christ,
for all that He has accomplished,
and for the way in which Your Holy Spirit applies it,
unto all for whom You have intended it.
