The Savior of the Body: The Spirit’s Application

The Savior of the Body: The Spirit’s Application
For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body.
Ephesians 5:23
Every Member of the Trinity is active and involved in the execution of the plan of Redemption. What the Father has ordained, He sent forth the Son to accomplish. What the Son has accomplished, the Holy Spirit applies unto all for whom it is intended. We are continuing our consideration of the text, ‘He is the Savior of the Body.’ As we often say, salvation is, from start to finish, the work of God. As such, we want to recognize every Person of the Trinity in their respective roles. We speak then, of ‘Redemption, Accomplished and Applied,’ as one of the old divines titled his book. The Holy Spirit regenerates us. He awakens us to righteousness. He effectually calls us. He draws us savingly unto Christ. He takes the things of Christ and shows them unto us. He makes Christ real unto us. The work of the Holy Spirit in redemption is every bit as important and necessary as the work of the Father and the Son. No member of the Trinity is of lesser importance, nor any One’s work of lesser value. All work together for good. What the Father ordained, the Son accomplished, and the Holy Spirit infallibly applies. This is overwhelmingly encouraging to us. Every Person of the Trinity is active in the matter of our redemption.
Holy Spirit, Heavenly Dove,
We praise You, for Your application of the Work of Christ unto us.
We rejoice that You transform us by Your power
into the image of Christ.
