‘And I Saw’

Now I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse….

Revelation 19:11a

The Return of Christ is a visible return. John, in writing this Revelation of Jesus Christ, has clear insights into the future. Because he does, he describes simply what he sees. Having said that, John’s vision will eventually become our reality. The rest of the Scripture bears testimony to the visible return of Christ. When Christ ascended from the Mount of Olives, as Luke records it in Acts 1, the testimony of the angels was, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven.” Paul testifies, ‘For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first.’ John declares, ‘Behold, He is coming with clouds, and every eye will see Him, even they who pierced Him. And all the tribes of the earth will mourn because of Him. Even so, Amen.’  All these texts, from these various witnesses, harmonize in concert to this one point, that the Return of Christ is a visible return. Of what spiritual value is this to us? This is of value to us, because it is visual verification that our faith has not been in vain. This is a visual confirmation to us that everything else which Christ and the Bible said is true. The actual sight of Christ, and the prospect of it, gives us a present hope. We may live to see this glorious return with our own eyes. More than that, every rising sun brings us one day closer to the day ‘when the faith shall be sight.’ As we continue our contemplation upon the return of Christ, let us dwell today upon the blessed thought that, ‘every eye shall see Him.’

Our Glorious, Coming Christ,
how we look foward to the day,
when we shall see You Face to face.
‘Even so, come Lord Jesus.’
