‘Kings and Priests’

‘Kings and Priests’

‘…and has made us kings and priests to His God and Father, to Him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.’

Revelation 1:6

Christ never fails to elevate His people to their highest level. He has designs for us. He will infallibly accomplish, in us and with us, all that He intends. The two things which our text brings forth for our consideration today, is that Christ has, ‘made us kings and priests to His God and Father.’ Christ is the King of Kings, and He makes kings of His people. Christ is the Great High Priest, and He makes priests of His people. From the depths of the pit of sin to the heights of these great positions, Christ has done for us ‘exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think.’ We often hear about the importance of ‘self-image.’ There is no way that any amount of ‘self-improvement,’ or ‘positive thinking,’ could bring us to the view of ourselves that comes by virtue of what Christ has made of us. What Christ makes of us is infinitely more than we could ever hope to make of ourselves, or hope that anyone else could ever make of us. He makes us kings, who were paupers. He makes us priests who were depraved. Never have any who started so low received such a promotion to positions that are so high. The knowledge of these things ennobles our behavior. How can we, who occupy the positions of kings and priests behave in a fashion that is low or small? Christ has ‘made us kings and priests,’ and, by His Spirit, is making us, in character, what we already are in position.

Our most Gracious, All-Powerful Christ,
we rejoice that You have raised us up to be kings and priests.
We praise You that You will never cease to work in us and with us,
all that You intend.
