‘Washed…In His Own Blood’
‘Washed…In His Own Blood’
…and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler over the kings of the earth. To Him who loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood….
Revelation 1:5
God has never been backward regarding blood. From almost the very beginning of humanity, and right away throughout the Old Testament, He makes much of the importance of the blood. The emphasis carries straight through the New Testament. So we arrive at our text for today. Our text declares that Christ has ‘washed us from our sins in His own blood.’ As we cast an eye back over the course of Holy history, we easily see how God has brought us thus far. Abel offered his lamb in a sacrifice of blood. God preserved the children of Israel on the night of the Passover by the blood of the lamb. The ancient priests offered blood sacrifices continually, first in the Tabernacle, and later in the Temple. John the Baptist declared at the very beginning, ‘Behold, the Lamb of God,’ which points us directly to His Sacrifice. Because of all these things, we make much of Christ, and within this context, even more of the Blood of Christ which washes us from our sins. ‘It is the blood that makes an atonement for the soul.’ If we are to be faithful to God’s emphasis, we must imitate what He does, in making much of the Blood of Christ. This is the history of the message of Redemption. Today, let us dwell upon the high cost of our sins being washed away by His Blood. Let us also rejoice that we are saved for all eternity by the Blood of the Lamb.
Our Holy and Wise God,
we praise You, for the Saving Blood of Christ,
We rejoice that with that Blood,
You wash away our sins.
