One God, One Mediator
One God, One Mediator
For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus..
1 Timothy 2:5
As the producers of this little devotional, we are wholly dedicated to making much of Christ. To that end, we arrive at a key element of the Person and Work of Christ. Our text for today summarizes it clearly, ‘For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus.…’ For the next little while, we want to contemplate the Person of Christ in His Role as the, ‘One Mediator between God and man.’ Because of original sin, between God and humanity there is a great gulf. To span that gulf there must be a Mediator. Christ is the only Person Who can span that gulf. He is very God of very God; He is also truly man. He Alone can accomplish all that is necessary to reconcile a Holy God with an unholy humanity. Without this Mediator, there can be, and will be no salvation. With Christ as Mediator, operating as Prophet, Priest, and King, the whole Plan and Purpose of God for redemption will infallibly come to pass. Christ is the Prophet, ‘like unto Moses.’ He is the Priest ‘forever after the order of Melchizedek.’ He is David’s ‘Lord,’ and David’s Greater Son. As such, He will sit perpetually ‘upon the Throne of David.’ For the next few days we will contemplate Christ in these three functions of His single Mediatorial Office. Here is a Jewel that merits our consideration from various angles. May God give us grace to see Christ, Our Prophet, Priest and King.
O, Christ, our Great Mediator,
we rejoice in all Your Work on our behalf.
We praise You, that by Your Person, and through Your Work,
You unfailingly bring us to God.
