‘Amen’
‘Amen’
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.
Revelation 22:21
When we come to the final word of Scripture, we find that God closes it very succinctly. He finishes the 66 books of Holy Writ with the single word, ‘Amen.’ This word is an affirmation. In essence, it means ‘so be it, or ‘let it come to pass.’ In context, it directly refers to the phrase, ‘the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.’ To that, we can heartily say, ‘Amen.’ Having said that, we may perhaps, without doing damage to the text, expand it to its’ largest context. We cast an eye back over the whole of the Scripture, and to the fullness of His revelation we say, ‘Amen.’ We say ‘Amen’ to His revelation that He is our Creator. We say ‘Amen’ to His weaving of the path of history to bring His Providential Plan and Purpose to pass. We say ‘Amen’ to all His ancient revelations of Christ in the types and shadows. We say, ‘Amen’ to Christ’s Incarnation, His Humiliation, His Ministry, His Miracles, His Atoning Sacrifice, and His Resurrection. To all that God has shown us of Christ, from the beginning of Scripture to the final chapter, we say ‘Amen’ from the bottom of our hearts. Here is our glorious affirmation: all that God has said is so. All that He has promised shall infallibly come to pass. His counsel shall stand. He will do all His Pleasure. We believe. We affirm. We await His final fulfillment. To all this, our hearts and mouths declare, ‘Amen.’
Our most Gracious, Wonder-Working God,
we rejoice that all Your promises are in Christ,
‘Yea,’ and in Him, ‘Amen.’
We praise You, that all that You promised, and all that You planned,
shall infallibly come to pass.
