From Start To Finish

I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last.

Revelation 22:13

We want to pay close attention to the descriptions which Christ provides of Himself for us. These descriptions offer us deep insights into His Character, and enable us to draw near to Him with greater understanding. Before us today, we have a single description which Christ gives us of Himself which He states three times in three different ways. He declares, ‘I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last.” If we understand that His first Self-description in our text refers to the beginning and ending letters of the Greek alphabet, we then follow the line of thought through to the end of the text. In brief, Christ is saying. ‘I Am the Ultimate Reality, The Consummate Entity, The Start and Finish for everything and everyone. This is a bold and categorical statement. He is the Beginning of Creation, the Beginning of theology; the Beginning of humanity, the Beginning of life; the Beginning of wisdom; the Beginning of all we know and all we do not know. ‘He is before all things, and by Him all things consist.’ He is the End as well. He is the End of all our hopes; ‘the End of the Law for righteousness for everyone who believes.’ He is the End of all controversy and the End of Judgment and Justice. He is the Great Consummator of all history. With Him we start; with Him we arrive at completion. Let us spend today dwelling upon this One, Who is ‘the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last.’

the Beginning and the End.
