‘By His Knowledge’
‘By His Knowledge’
He shall see the labor of His soul, and be satisfied. By His knowledge My righteous Servant shall justify many, For He shall bear their iniquities.
Isaiah 53:11
Can we, in truth, know God? Apparently, we can. Jeremiah relates the words of God when he says, ‘”let the one who boasts boast in this, that he understands and knows Me, That I am the LORD, exercising lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness in the earth. For in these I delight,” says the LORD.’ How can we know God? Our text for today points us to Christ. If we are to know God, we must come to know Him through Christ. Christ Himself is very blunt about this fact. He declares categorically, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.’ To return to our text, we read, ‘by His knowledge’ or perhaps better, ‘by the knowledge of Him.’ We can know God, and we can know Him by knowing Christ. This is a knowledge that begins with an introduction, and never ends. We begin by knowing Him in small ways, and continue to develop in our knowledge of Him in innumerable ways. We come to know Him by the reading and study of His Word. We come to know Him by the declaration of His Word. We come to know Him in the place of prayer. We come to know Him as the Holy Spirit takes the things which are of Him and shows them unto us. We shall continue to know Him more throughout life, and spend an endless eternity deepening in our understanding and knowing Him more throughly. Hence, we concentrate upon Christ, and continue constantly to contemplate Him. All other knowledge is of lesser value and importance. This is the knowledge we prize most highly. It is ‘the knowledge of Him.’
Our most Holy and Wise God,
We praise You that You have revealed so much of Yourself unto us.
We rejoice that in Your Light we shall see light,
And that Christ is the greatest Light of all.
