‘I Saw The Lord’

‘I Saw The Lord’

In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lifted up, and the train of His robe filled the temple. Above it stood seraphim; each one had six wings: with two he covered his face, with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. And one cried to another and said: “Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts; The whole earth is full of His glory!” And the posts of the door were shaken by the voice of him who cried out, and the house was filled with smoke.

Isaiah 6:1-4

How does God prepare a person to do a work for Him? Isaiah is not the only example, but he is a good example. For the next few days, we are going to consider how God prepared Isaiah to do the work which God had for him to do. We find, in the verses which lie before us today, that in the case of Isaiah, when He would prepare him for service, God gave him a clear sight of Christ, ‘In the year that King Uzziah died.’ Uzziah had been a good king in many respects. His failure had been that he had become proud and had sought to offer incense on the altar in the temple which was the work of the priests. God had struck Uzziah with leprosy on the spot. Having said that, the reign of Uzziah was good in many other ways, and no doubt, Isaiah would have admired him. It was in the year that this earthly king died, that God gave Isaiah a clear sight of the Heavenly King, Jesus. God had a great work for Isaiah to do. Before he would begin that work, God gave him a clear sight of Christ. We see that it is so for others. Moses, Joshua, and the disciples all had personal sights of Christ before they embarked upon the work God had for them to do. If we are to be the ‘witnesses’ to Christ that He intends for us to be, we must first see Him clearly. Perhaps today, God is drawing back the curtain in order that you may clearly see Christ. Perhaps He is preparing you to do a work for Him.

Our Holy and Wise God,
we praise You that You prepare us to do Your Work
in the way in which You see fit.
We rejoice that in preparing us,
You give us clear sights of Christ.
