‘Knock’
‘Knock’
“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.“
Matthew 7:7
Christ makes a third statement to conclude His exhortation to us to approach Him with boldness. He says, ‘Knock, and it will be opened to you.’ How often do we learn in life to knock. As parents and grandparents we become attuned to that little knock in the middle of the night, when the smallest child in the household knocks on the bedroom door to enter and receive comfort and assurance. Even at that tender age the child has grasped the importance of that knock. We knock on other doors as we grow older. We ‘knock’ on the door of opportunity to learn and grow. We ‘knock’ on the door of those who can teach us and mentor us. We ‘knock’ on the door of those who will counsel us and give us sound advice. Christ bids us to ‘knock’ upon His Door. With this bid, He adds a promise, ‘it will be opened to You.’ The history of Christ in the world reveals that He has never rejected anyone who has come to Him. We can ‘knock’ upon His Door with boldness and with confidence. Christ is the most hospitable Host of whom we can conceive. His household is warm and inviting. It is home for all of us who have trusted in Him. Today, hear His Gracious Invitation. Whatever you need, ‘knock, and it will be opened unto you.’ He will be as good as His Word.
Our Gracious Lord, and our Inviting Host,
we praise You that we may knock at Your door
with the full knowledge that You will open it widely unto us.
We rejoice that You receive us for Your Own Sake and satisfy our deepest needs.
