‘Seek’
‘Seek’
“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.“
Matthew 7:7
As we continue our consideration of our text, we arrive at Christ’s statement, ‘Seek, and you will find.’ Again, we reiterate that Christ’s Sermon on the Mount was the New Testament articulation of the Law. The Law is ‘our schoolmaster to bring us to Christ.’ If Christ bids us ‘ask,’ it will ultimately lead us to ask of Him. If Christ bids us ‘seek,’ it is to the purpose that we will seek Him. He declares, ‘Seek and you will find.’ What do we seek in life? We seek peace, yet we only find real peace in Christ. We seek prosperity, yet we find true wealth only in Christ. We seek success, yet the only real success in life comes as the result of our relationship with Christ. We could go on and on to prove and illustrate the point. If we seek Christ first and foremost, we will find all else that is desirable in life. This will not match what those around us esteem or value necessarily. Their desires rest upon the praise of man, status, possessions, and preferment. Our value rests upon what God esteems to be worthwhile. Today, let us above all else seek Christ. Let us sit at His Feet, learn of Him and His Ways; long to find what He Alone can reveal to us. He will be as good as His Word. ‘Seek and you shall find.’
Our All-Sufficient God,
we praise You that to seek You is never a waste of time.
We rejoice that as we seek You, we will find You,
and in finding You, be satisfied.
