A Statement of Praise

A Statement of Praise

A Statement of Praise

‘…Hallowed be thy name.‘

Matthew 6:9b

As we continue our consideration of Christ’s instruction to us to pray, ‘Hallowed be Your Name,’ we want to consider it not just as a statement of fact, but also as a statement of praise. If we recognize the fact that God is Holy, it will inevitably lead us to praise Him. Why is this important to us? It is important when we come to consider what our God is like by comparison to other purported gods. Read the mythologies and theologies of the other religions. Their gods are vengeful and petty. They exhibit the worst morality and the meanest of motives. They are not such gods as anyone would desire. They are gods fashioned from the mind of depraved humanity and exhibit the worst of its’ characteristics. By contrast, our God exhibits the qualities and characteristics which reflect everything that is most desirable. Who would exchange our God for these gods which are really no gods at all? When we approach the God Whose Name is ‘Hallowed,’ we approach the God Who would not tolerate evil to the extent that He would sacrifice His Only Begotten Son to redeem the unholy, that they might be made, ‘the righteousness of God in Him.’ This is the God of the Hallowed Name, Who is utterly worthy of our praise. He is the God of Grace and Truth. He is the God Who does all things well. ‘This God is our God forever and ever.’ ‘Hallowed be Thy Name.’

Our most Holy and Wise God,
we praise You for Your Unchanging Character.
We rejoice that Christ our Savior is the same
yesterday, today and forever.
