‘Your Kingdom’

‘Your Kingdom’

‘Your Kingdom’

Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.

Matthew 6:10

If we are to speak of God as King, as we did yesterday, we must also speak of His Kingdom. Over what does God rule? What is the extent of His Authority? Psalm 103:19 answers this with a broad statement, ‘The Lord hath prepared his throne in the heavens; and his kingdom ruleth over all.’ It will take a few minutes of consideration for the implications of this to weigh as heavily upon our minds as they should. We tend to see the power of second causes. We see the people of influence in the world at large, and more particularly in our own tiny sphere. We think of them as being people who have authority. They make decisions, set policy, give orders in their own area of activity. They speak and expect obsequious obedience. We give them their due, because we are morally obliged to do so, but we recognize that they are only the minions of the Great King. They fall under the authority of His Kingdom. Christ rules over all. This is very encouraging for us. Above every second cause Christ rules as the First Cause. Regardless of their machinations, their inventions, and their aspirations for personal aggrandizement, Christ will have His Way because ‘His Kingdom rules over all.’ There is no corner of the far-flung universe where Christ does not rule. We, who rest by faith in Christ are the particular objects of His Care. We rest very securely in the fact that, ‘His Kingdom rules over all.’

Our Gracious King of Glory,
we praise You that You rule all of the affairs of humanity.
We rejoice that Your Rulership extends unto our smallest affairs.
We thank You that You will do us good in all these things.
