’Your Kingdom Come’

’Your Kingdom Come’

‘Your Kingdom Come’

Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.

Matthew 6:10

Christ is King. He has a Kingdom and His Kingdom is advancing. We have the high privilege of being a part of the advancement of that Kingdom and He has given us many avenues of opportunity. Within the context of our discussion, we have the privilege of prayer. Can God advance His Kingdom without us? He can, however, He very graciously includes us. Most to the point, He includes us by teaching us to pray, and tells us how to pray. When we pray, for what exactly are we praying? When we pray, ‘Your Kingdom come,’ we are praying that Christ will manifestly increase His Rulership over all that is. While we recognize that He is Sovereign, and that ‘His Kingdom rules over all,’ His Rulership is not manifestly clear to all. When we pray, ‘Your Kingdom come,’ we are praying that He will advance His Kingdom in such a way as to be clear and plain even to those who do not want to believe it. We are also praying that Christ will advance His Kingdom in the Church, that is, among all who are His People. On a strictly personal level, when we pray, ‘Your Kingdom come,’ we are praying that Christ will advance His Kingdom in us. This brings us to a highly personal application of this petition. If I want Christ to advance His Kingdom, how will He advance His Kingdom in me? What changes will that cause? How will Christ’s advancement of His Kingdom in me make me different? This causes me to think seriously when I pray, ‘Your Kingdom come.’

Our Savior and Our King,
we rejoice that You Rule in all places and under all conditions.
We praise You that You shall continue to rule, to advance Your Kingdom,
and that we shall ever be Your willing subjects.
