’Lead Me…Teach Me’
‘Lead Me…Teach Me’
Lead me in thy truth, and teach me: for thou art the God of my salvation; on thee do I wait all the day.
Psalm 25:5
David was painfully aware of his own ignorance. He was also aware that he was not going to be able to remedy that ignorance by himself. To the purpose of making wise and right decisions, David appeals to God. He petitions, ‘Lead me in thy truth, and teach me: for thou art the God of my salvation; on thee do I wait all the day.’ He relates the curing of his ignorance to God being, ‘the God of my salvation.’ This ultimately led David, and leads us, to Christ. It is by the knowledge of Christ that God leads us in His Truth. It is by the knowledge of Christ that God teaches us. It is well worth our time to ‘wait all the day’ for God to lead us in His truth and to teach us. This is not a wait of idleness or of indolence. We may be actively engaged in the waiting period. We may make full use of all the means of grace which God has afforded us. In fact, it is by these means that God will cure our ignorance and lead us in His truth. As we look daily into the Scriptures, as we consider spiritual matters, spend time in the place of prayer, and engage in all the other means which He has afforded us, He will lead us and teach us. All along the way the Holy Spirit will take the things of Christ and show them unto us. David’s prayer is very evangelical and his desire is very evident. In desiring to know God, David makes the wise choices which will result in a holy, happy life. We need the same knowledge David had. The knowledge of Christ is the gateway to both holiness and happiness. Today, let us make this verse our prayer, that God, in answering us will ever show us more of Christ.
Our Gracious Master and Our God,
we rejoice that You are the great instructor of Your people.
We praise You that in showing us Christ,
You lead us into all truth.
