‘And Peace’

‘And Peace’
Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end….
Isaiah 9:7
‘World Peace’ has become a proverbial goal for all sorts of people. From the world organizations to the aspiring beauty pageant contestant, we have the cry for ‘World Peace.’ It is proving, thus far, to be a most elusive goal. We have huge militaries to ‘keep the peace,’ or to ‘fight for peace.’ We ‘hold ‘Peace Summits’ and have ‘Peace Talks.’ Yet for all the talk of peace, there is very little of it. No matter where we look over the whole earth, we find there is ‘war and rumor of war.’ Who can resolve these conflicts? Isaiah gives us the answer, His answer is Christ. Our text for today declares, ‘of the increase of His government and peace there will be no end.’ Isaiah has already identified Christ as ‘The Prince of Peace.’ Now, he tells us the practical result of Who Christ is, and what He does. Christ brings peace. He brings peace to us personally and individually. By faith in Him we have peace with God, and the peace of God rules in our hearts. Christ brings peace to troubled hearts, to troubled homes and to troubled communities. Ultimately, He will bring peace to a world now marked by bloodshed and warfare. He is the King of Peace. This is why we sound forth His Gospel to all and sundry. If we would know peace personally, we must know Him. If we would see wrongs righted, justice done, evil vanquished, and ‘World Peace,’ Christ is the Answer.
O, God of Peace,
we rejoice that Christ is the Prince of Peace.
We praise You that all that He has accomplished thus far,
has brought us peace with You,
and that Your peace does indeed rule our hearts.
