At His Right Hand

And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-wards who believe, according to the working of his mighty power, which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places, far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come.
Ephesians 1:19-21
The exaltation of Christ has followed His humiliation. It was necessary for Christ to endure this humiliation in order to satisfy the Law of God in precept and in penalty. The beginning of Christ’s exaltation was when God ‘raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places.’ This was ‘the working of His mighty power.’ Paul, in praying for the Ephesians, greatly desires that they should know ‘what is the exceeding greatness of His power.’ He has exercised this power ‘toward us who believe.’ Paul wants the Ephesians, and us as well, to understand that the power which raised Christ from the dead is the power that affects us in every way. For the moment, let us dwell upon the magnitude of this exaltation of Christ. God has ‘raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in heavenly places.’ He has set Christ far above all authorities regardless of their origin or their position. No one else supersedes Christ, except the Father Himself to Whom Christ has voluntarily taken a servant’s role. This is the magnitude of the exaltation of Christ. This is why it is utterly impossible to make too much of Christ. An understanding of Christ in His humiliation and in His exaltation is the gateway to all truly practical spirituality. Christ is all.
Our All-powerful and All-wise God,
we rejoice that You have exalted Christ in every way.
We praise You that because He is lifted up,
we are lifted up with Him.
