The Power That Works

Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us….
Ephesians 3:20
Paul had great desires for the good of his spiritual children. He had great faith in God to do in their lives ‘exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think.’ He recognized that this would ultimately transform them into the image of Christ. As he closes this prayer for them with this doxology, he makes reference to the fact that when God did ‘exceedingly and abundantly above all that we ask or think,’ He would do so, ‘according to the power that works in us.’ What is this ‘power that works in us?’ It is the power of the Spirit of Christ. What gave the Apostles, who were, ‘uneducated and untrained men,’ the power they had? Simply, ‘they had been with Jesus.’ How were they able to boldly ‘cease not to teach and preach Jesus Christ?’ They had ‘received power after that the Holy Spirit had come upon them.’ This enabled them to say and do remarkable things which were evidence of God doing ‘exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think.’ This is the power that works in the people of God for everything that He has for us to be and to do. Christ said, ‘Without me you can do nothing.’ Paul said, ‘I can do all things through Christ, Who strengthens me.’ Let us look to Christ and to His Spirit to work in us today and every day according to the ‘power that works in us.’
Our All-powerful and All-wise God.
we rejoice that You are accomplishing in us all that You intend.
We praise You that You will work in us
what will bring You the most glory
and what will accomplish Your purpose.
