Christ The Key

Christ The Key

Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your request be made known unto God.  And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:6-7

How is Christ the key to the peace of God?  Perhaps the best way to present it is to consider the illustration of Christ as the Head and His people as the Body.  A body can experience pain and can communicate by nerve reactions to the head what it is experiencing.  The head is what makes sense of what the body is experiencing.  The head can see what is causing the pain.  The head can calm the body or cause it to move in order to adjust to varying circumstances.  The head can discern whether a perceived threat is genuine or not.  The body can only react, but it cannot understand what it is experiencing apart from the head.  This is why, if we follow the illustration, we, as the Body of Christ are utterly dependent upon Christ to give us peace ‘which passes all understanding.’  Christ, Our Head, sees what we cannot see; understands what is confusing to us; and knows what we cannot know.  Therefore, Christ is the key to our having ‘the peace of God.’  Our indissoluble union with Christ means that we are inseparable from Him.  His position as our Head means that He can communicate to us peace that we cannot have by any other means; thus, ‘the peace of God’ is by our Lord Jesus Christ.

Our Holy and Wise God,
we rejoice that in Your Wisdom,
You have shown us
a clear example of our relationship with Christ.
We praise You that daily,
by His Holy Spirit,
He makes sense of all our circumstances.
