The Peace Of God

The Peace Of God

Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your request be made known unto God.  And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:6-7

What is the peace of God and how may we obtain it?  This is a subject we want to consider for the next little while.  The peace of God is different from peace with God.  Having peace with God is the result of being justified by faith through our Lord Jesus Christ.  Peace with God means we are no longer at war with Him as strangers and aliens from the grace of God.  Once we have peace with God, because He adopts us as His children, it is a permanent state.  The peace of God is the tranquil settledness of heart, mind, and soul which God gives to His people in spite of the turbulence of their circumstances.  This peace of God is ‘through Christ Jesus.’  We will not obtain this peace apart from Christ.  It is the kind of peace which is so distinct from any human fabrication that Paul describes it as that ‘which passes all understanding.’  It is essentially above and beyond what we can comprehend.  The more turbulent the circumstances, the more supernatural the peace of God appears.  This is the kind of peace that many of the martyrs of the faith have demonstrated as they endured death for the Name of Christ.  It is a glorious condition which is available to the people of God, even if our situation is not quite so dire as theirs.  In all our circumstances today, we may enjoy the sense of the presence of God and the peace of God which passes all understanding.

Our Good and Merciful God,
we rejoice that You grant Your Peace unto us,
in all circumstances and conditions.
We praise You by Your Holy Spirit,
You will continue to give us peace by
pointing us to Christ.
