Preaching Christ

Preaching Christ

Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, is this grace given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ.

Ephesians 3:8

Paul preached Christ. In this, he was at one with the rest of the Apostles, who ‘daily in the temple, and in every house, ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ.’  Paul’s particular assignment was to preach Christ to the Gentiles, as he remarks in our text.  It was Christ’s stated intention that all of His Apostles should ‘bear witness’ of Him ‘to the end of the earth.’  In a de facto way, we have inherited this assignment.  The mission of the redeemed people of God is the preaching of Christ.  It is not the proclamation of morals, ethics, religious performance, the addressing of social issues, or even theological discourses proclaiming themselves to be ‘Bible teaching.’  All preaching, teaching, theologizing, counseling, and writing must, if we are to consider it truly Christian, proclaim Christ, and that in more than merely a casual or cursory way.  Paul understood this, and therefore considered it to be his high privilege to ‘preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ.’  This is what he did and in this day and generation, this is what His people are to do.  It is a wonderful privilege and a grand mission, for in Christ there are ‘unsearchable riches.’

Our Gracious Master and Our God,
we rejoice that You have given unto us the great privilege,
of preaching Christ.
We praise You, that Christ is the answer
to all of our burning questions
and the solution to our deepest perplexities.
