Who Has Preached Christ?

Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, is this grace given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ.

Ephesians 3:8

Who has preached Christ?  If we assert that it is the primary purpose of the Church to proclaim Christ as the answer to all of the important questions, in what company do we stand?  An overview of the messages of the writers of Scripture answers this question.  Moses records the first preaching of Christ in Genesis 3.  Abraham preached Christ by prophecy when he said that God would ‘provide Himself a lamb.’  Jacob spoke of Christ as ‘Shiloh’ or ‘Peace’ Who would come to rule.  Moses preached Christ as the Prophet Who would be like him.  Joshua presented Christ as the Captain of the Lord’s army.  David preached Christ as ‘my Lord.’  Isaiah preached Christ as the King, Jehovah, upon His throne.  He set Him forth as the Suffering Savior and the Servant of Jehovah.  Matthew preached Christ as the King of Israel; Mark, as the Servant of the Lord; Luke, as the Son of man; and John, as the Son of God.  Peter preached Christ throughout the first twelve chapters of Acts.  Paul preached Christ from chapter thirteen through the end of the book of Acts.  The rest of the New Testament is the proclamation of Christ and the explanation of His ‘unsearchable riches.’  What we are doing, in making much of Christ, is continuing the same practice as all these who have gone before us.  This is our great privilege and glorious opportunity.  Christ is the message, Christ is all.
