The Mystery Of Christ

Whereby, when ye read, ye may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ.
Ephesians 3:4
What is ‘the mystery of Christ?’ Paul uses the word ‘mystery’ on several occasions in the passage before us. As we consider the meaning of it, we perhaps want to look at it in a broad sense and in the more narrow sense. In the broader sense, ‘the mystery of Christ,’ is that which encompasses the whole of His Person. Christ is God. Not only is He God, He is also truly man. The union of God and man is in itself mysterious. The various areas which this affects, are themselves individually also mysterious. One example would be that Christ, has the Divine will at the same time as He has the truly human will. This is something that we are unable to adequately understand apart from the aid of the Holy Spirit. Paul alludes to this when he says that it was ‘by revelation He made known to me the mystery.’ Christ is a veritable cave of wonders, full of unimaginable treasures. As we come to understand small portions of the mystery of Christ, we realize that there is always much more beyond what we have discovered. It is the work of the Holy Spirit to take the things of Christ and show them unto us, as we seek to understand the mystery of Christ.
Our Glorious Living God,
we rejoice that in Christ there is abundant wealth.
We praise You that by Your Holy Spirit,
You continue to reveal to us the mystery
of our Living, Loving, Savior.
