Through Faith In Him

In whom we have boldness and access with confidence by the faith of him.

Ephesians 3:12

What we have in Christ comes to us ‘through faith in Him.’  This is true of all that has gone before by way of our redemption.  God has done all the things which He has done in choosing us in Christ, in predestinating us, in raising us from spiritual death to life, in extending to us the call of the gospel, in regenerating us, and in giving us repentance, to bring us to the place where He gives us faith to believe in Christ.  According to Hebrews 11:6, ‘without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.’  According to Paul, faith is ‘the gift of God.’  Faith is the divinely ordained vehicle which transports us to the place where we encounter our Bridegroom.  All the rest of what we believe and do rests upon the underlying foundation of faith.  Therefore, faith is indispensable.  This brings us to the discussion of our ‘boldness’ and ‘access with confidence.’  If all else proceeds upon the basis of faith, then our access to God in prayer does as well.  We have utter faith in Christ to first guarantee our acceptance with God and to ensure our continual access to God.  We cannot fail unless Christ fails; and Jesus never fails.  Therefore we have ‘boldness and access with confidence by the faith of him.’

Our most Holy and Wise God,
we rejoice that You have ordained all things
for our good and for Your ultimate glory.
We praise You that day by day
we can come to the Throne of Grace,
knowing that You will hear us,
for Jesus’ sake.
