I will Uphold You

Fear thou not; for I am with thee be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.
Isaiah 41:10
The promises of God remain, when every other resource has failed us. As Isaiah writes this passage, he describes the people of God in dire straits. At the beginning of this major section of the book, he began, ‘comfort ye, comfort ye my people, saith your God.’ As he comforted God’s people, Isaiah penned the words of today’s text. Here is a five-fold promise for the faltering soul. He says, ‘I am with you,’ even though you may feel alone. He says, ‘I am your God,’ even though you may be dismayed by all the overwhelming circumstances you are facing. ‘I will strengthen you,’ even though you are so weak that you cannot stand. ‘I will help you,’ when you feel utterly helpless. ‘I will uphold you,’ and keep you from falling. This is the role which Christ plays in the life of His most troubled lamb. These are the promises He keeps. This is the grace He gives. This is the help He provides. You may be lower than you have ever been in your life, but here is where the grace of God in the Person of Christ is most effective. He has upheld all who have looked to Him. He has promised to do you good and Jesus never fails.
Our Almighty, Upholding God,
we rejoice that You do us good,
when no one else can.
We praise You, that You will bear us up,
in every circumstance and bring us safely home.
