The Care Christ Gives

When my father and my mother forsake me, then the Lord will take me up.

Psalm 27:10

At times we face the cruelest of circumstances.  David closes Psalm 27 with the words of our text, saying, ‘when my father and mother forsake me.’  This is a feeling of being so alone that even our nearest and dearest have walked away.  When David felt this way, he looked to the only One who could do him good.  His consolation was, ‘the Lord will take me up.’  What does that mean?  It means that Christ will lift up the poor, weak helpless lamb and carry that lonely one close to His chest.  Christ is the caregiver for those whom others have abandoned.  In His life and ministry, He made a point of seeking out the solitary and the marginalized.  He sought out Elijah in his isolation, the maniac of Gadara, the woman at the well, and Paul who said, ‘at my first answer no man stood with me…but, the Lord stood with me and strengthened me.’  Christ understands the feeling of abandonment, having been abandoned Himself.  He is most tender and compassionate toward those, who sit alone.  Today, we again point you to Christ wherever you are, that you may find in Him the One Who will take you up. 

Our Kind and Gracious God,
and our Everlasting Friend.
We rejoice that You are with us in our loneliest hours.
We praise You that You hold us close,
that we may feel the very heartbeat of God.
