Nothing Else But Christ

Nothing Else But Christ

For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ and him crucified.

I Corinthians 2:2

What is important for us to emphasize?  Paul clearly understood and articulates it in our text for today.  Paul could have emphasized other things.  He could have discussed theology, politics, or morality and ethics.  He really only ever discusses those things in their logical relation to his one great subject of ‘Jesus Christ and Him crucified.’  According to Paul, this was a conscious determination.  He made ‘Christ and Him crucified,’ his single goal for every part of His overall mission.   This should still be the primary purpose of anyone who handles the Word of God in any capacity.  Discussions of theology, politics, morals, and ethics are only truly useful if we have related them to the underlying foundation of ‘Jesus Christ and Him crucified.’  This has to be more than mere inference.  It is not something that can be an assumption or simply understood.  The message of all the Old Testament prophets, and all the New Testament Apostles was, ‘Jesus Christ and Him crucified.’  We cannot improve upon it.  Their message has become our message.  If we want to change the world, we must make their emphasis our emphasis, their message our message, and their mission our mission.

Our Wise and Wonderful God,
we rejoice that You have entrusted unto us,
the declaration of Christ and Him crucified.
We praise You that day-by-day,
by life and lip,
we have the opportunity to make Him known.
