Jesus Is Lord

Jesus Is Lord

Therefore I make known to you that no one speaking by the Spirit of God calls Jesus accursed, and no one can say that Jesus is Lord except by the Holy Spirit.

I Corinthians 12:3

The Holy Spirit makes much of Christ.  As Paul is beginning his discussion of spiritual gifts, he makes a categorical statement regarding the Holy Spirit and His declaration of Christ.  In this statement he is setting forth the fact that the Holy Spirit is behind the declaration that Jesus is Lord.  At the moment, we want to concentrate on this testimony.  The Holy Spirit has been moving believers to testify that Jesus is Lord for centuries.  We can go so far as to state that the holy men of God, who spoke as they were moved by the Holy Ghost were, in a de facto way, being moved to declare that Jesus is Lord because ‘to Him give all the prophets witness.’  When Peter preached on the Day of Pentecost, he said, ‘therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.’  When he followed the instructions of Christ Himself to preach the gospel to the gentiles he said, ‘the word which God sent unto the children of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ: He is Lord of All.’ This has become the message of the people of God in all the succeeding generations.  Because it has, we declare it clearly and plainly.  Jesus Christ is Lord, with all that it implies.  As we consider this message, we want to look at it in as many of its’ ramifications as we can, personally, locally, nationally and globally.  We want to be faithful in our proclamation of the simple, straightforward message that Jesus Christ is Lord.

Our Almighty God and our Heavenly Father,
we rejoice that You have sent Christ unto us.
We praise You that You have enabled us to understand the truth,
that He is Lord, and to live daily in the light of that.
