Both Lord And Christ

Both Lord And Christ

Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ.

Acts 2:36

When the Holy Spirit descended upon the disciples on the Day of Pentecost, He filled them with boldness to preach Christ.  Peter stood up and began to proclaim Christ to all who were there for the feast.  Our text arises from his message.  In many respects, it is the climax of his declaration.  Immediately after he says, ‘God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ,’ the hearers ‘were cut to the heart’ and asked, ‘what shall we do?’  Conviction and conversion are the appropriate responses to the preaching of Christ.  That Jesus is Lord and Savior is inherent in the preaching of the good news of salvation.  It is implicit in all that follows in life after conversion as well as life after death. There is nowhere in heaven, earth or hell where Jesus is not both Lord and Christ.  Therefore, as God commenced the New Testament gospel campaign of the Church, He put this message in the mouth of His keynote speaker.  We are simply reiterating that message.  It is the message that makes much of Christ to the end that those who hear it will believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and be saved.

Our Glorious Living God,
we rejoice that You have exalted Christ.
We praise You that He shall return in glory
as King of kings and Lord of lords.
