Lord Of All

The word which God sent to the children of Israel, preaching peace through Jesus Christ:  He is Lord of all.

Acts 10:36

The message of the New Testament believers was that Jesus is Lord of all.  In the first twelve chapters of the book of the Acts of the Apostles, Peter emerges as the chief spokesman.  After a specific incident in which Christ makes it clear to Peter that he will be evangelizing the gentiles, Peter goes to the home of Cornelius, a centurion of the Roman army to proclaim the gospel.  In that preaching, Peter utters the words regarding Jesus, ‘He is Lord of all.’  He makes the statement almost as an aside, or as a given fact.  What we can derive from this is that to Peter, and hence to the Apostles, the fact that Jesus Christ is Lord of all was indeed the commonly held truth.  It was not a matter of question or controversy as far as they were concerned.  It was, to them, simply part of the whole message they were proclaiming regarding the Person and work of Christ.  We are carrying that same message forward today.  To us, this is no less a matter of fact or controversy than it was to them.  Jesus Christ is Lord of all.  This raises the question which Christ posed in another context, ‘What do you think of Christ?’  The message calls for a decision: is Christ Your Lord?  Have you embraced Him as the gospel freely offers Him to you?

Our Gracious, Wise and Loving God,
we rejoice that You rule over all things.
We praise You that You have set forth Christ as Lord of all,
and that all our hopes lie in Him.
