His Servants Shall Serve Him

His Servants Shall Serve Him

And there shall be no more curse, but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it, and His servants shall serve Him.

Revelation 22:3

What shall we do in eternity?  For various reasons, popular culture has portrayed the eternal state as one long, boring enterprise consisting of sitting on clouds, strumming harps, and unending worship services.  By contrast, those who go to hell will have an unending party because, ‘all my friends are going to be there too.’  This is a total misrepresentation of both situations.  While the harps and worship are a portion of the eternal state, they are not the whole of it.  Rather, we find, that in the eternal state, as John describes it, Christ is there and ‘His servants shall serve Him.’  If we go back to the original creation of humanity, God created Adam, the first man, placed him in a perfect environment, and gave him something to do, ‘Then the Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to tend and keep it.’  Adam and later Eve, were created to find fulfillment in the service of God.  It is the same in the eternal state, ‘and His servants shall serve Him.’  At this stage, with our limited knowledge and understanding, we have a small idea of all that service might entail.  In truth, our eyes have not seen and our ears have not heard all the things which God has prepared for us.  We do know that it will be far from boring to engage in the service of the King.

Our Wise and Wonderful God,
we rejoice that You have given unto us the privilege,
of serving You now.
We praise You that before us, stretches an unending eternity,
in which we can continue to do service
for Jesus our King.
