The Pleasure Of The LORD

Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise Him; He has put Him to grief. When You make His soul an offering for sin, He shall see His seed, He shall prolong His days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in His hand.
Isaiah 53:10
What is ‘the pleasure of the LORD?’ Psalm 149:4 articulates it, ‘For the LORD takes pleasure in His people; He will beautify the humble with salvation.’ The passage before us dwells upon the sufferings of Christ to redeem His people. Within our text, we see references to His bruising, His grief, and His offering for sin. At the midpoint of the text, we begin to observe the success of His labor and trials. ‘He shall see His seed, He shall prolong His days.’ The sacrifice of Christ was successful enough to produce fruit that will last for eternity. The portion of the text upon which we are concentrating today, brings us to dwell upon the thought that these people in whom Jehovah takes pleasure, shall prosper in Christ’s hands. Christ saves us from the lowest reaches of society. He does not call the wise, the mighty, the wealthy, or the humanly notable. He calls the weak, the despised, the outcasts and the marginalized. Having sacrificed Himself for them, He takes them up and makes them to prosper for His glory. This is not a physical, earthly prosperity, but a deeply spiritual one. He takes pleasure in His people and causes them to prosper in what advances His cause and Kingdom.
High King of Heaven,
we rejoice that You are advancing Your Kingdom.
We praise You that everything that You have intended,
shall come to pass.
