The Power Of God

For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.
Romans 1:16
Paul preached Christ. His primary purpose in life was to make much of Christ. The world was his parish. He roamed over the ancient world to preach Christ, to the Jews first and also to the Gentiles, or Greeks as they were commonly called. He knew that the gospel is ‘the power of God to salvation.’ Therefore, he determined wherever he went to preach Jesus Christ and Him crucified. As he began to write his letter to the Romans, he articulated his view of the gospel. This is a holistic view of preaching. Paul is preaching the gospel in a way that demonstrates its value to the whole of humanity for every culture, with all manner of backgrounds, over the whole of history. Paul had a wide view of the gospel’s purpose, power, and ultimate effect. This was something of which he was not ashamed. The Jewish religionists regarded it as heresy; the Greek philosophers derided it as foolishness, but Paul knew it is ‘the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes.’ We are persuaded of what Paul believed. We are keen to make much of Christ. We do believe the gospel is the power of God to salvation to everyone who believes. Therefore, we daily seek to proclaim Christ to all in whatever circumstance we find ourselves. He is worthy.
Our Glorious, Saving God,
we rejoice that You have given us the privilege to preach Christ.
We praise You that He is
the primary message of Your word.
