Grace Reigns

Moreover the law entered that the offense might abound. But where sin abounded, grace abounded much more, so that as sin reigned in death, even so grace might reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Romans 5:20-21
All is not lost because of Adam’s sin. As our text puts it ‘sin reigned in death.’ Because of Adam, sin entered the world and death came with it. This was a universal sentence. We have been a dying race ever since. Christ is the living manifestation of the grace of God. He has successfully defeated sin and death. Because He has, death does not reign. More than that death is doomed. Paul writes, ‘the last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.’ His chapter on the resurrection contains an anthem of victory over death and the grave. Thus, Christ lives, reigns and because He does, grace reigns. The news is all good. What gives us cause for rejoicing is that Christ’s work to bring in righteousness has been overwhelmingly successful. Nothing and no one can reverse it. Whom Christ has redeemed is redeemed for all eternity by His blood. No power in heaven, earth or hell can alter this redemption. Grace reigns. This is that blessed assurance of which the people of God have been singing for centuries. It is the same grace of which we shall be singing for all eternity. It is a high theme that brings us to Christ over and over again. The story began in disaster and ends in glory. Christ is at the center of it all.
God of Grace and Glory,
we rejoice that You reign.
We praise You that because You reign,
Christ reigns and shall forever.
