No Condemnation

There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.
Romans 8:1
Christ delivers us from condemnation. If we consider what would otherwise condemn us the list is formidable. The law of God condemns us. Our deeds condemn us. Our conscience condemns us. In Christ, such condemnation goes away. Such is the completeness of the work He does that, ‘there is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus.’ This is the best news we could receive. It means we can live without a cloud of guilt hanging over our head. It also means that the Holy Spirit, Who now dwells within us, teaches us how to walk according to Him as opposed to according to the flesh. As the Holy Spirit renews us in the whole person after the image of Christ, He enables us to die more and more unto sin and to live unto righteousness. This means, to refer back to Paul’s question in the previous chapter, that Christ is delivering us from this body of death. What is particularly glorious about living without condemnation is that we may succeed in walking in the Spirit one day better than another, but we are not condemned on the days we fail or on the days we succeed. Sanctification is a work of God’s free grace. Our spiritual life and the growth we experience is more about what God is doing and less about what we are doing.
Our Holy and Sovereign God,
we rejoice that You deliver us from condemnation.
We praise You for the work of Your Holy Spirit,
Who teaches us how to walk.
