Confess And Believe

If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
Romans 10:9-10
Paul is tremendously evangelistic. He never misses an opportunity to set forth the essentials of salvation. Our text is one such instance. To confess with the mouth the Lord Jesus is to declare our belief in His Person and His work. We are confessing that we believe He is the Son of God and the Savior of the world. We are confessing our faith in Him. Part of the whole of what we believe about Him is that God has raised Him from the dead. The resurrection is critical to the whole message. The Apostles’ preaching and writing is full of declarations regarding the resurrection of Christ. Therefore, Paul includes it in his writing here. The whole of his life’s work was to make much of Christ wherever he went. It was to this end he endured all manner of hardships, deprivations, and persecutions. He spent his life and staked his claim for eternity upon Christ. Therefore, in writing to any in Rome who would read his epistle, he stated categorically that if they would confess with their mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in their heart that God had raised Him from the dead, they would be saved. We believe this as well. We desire to make much of Christ. We call upon any of you who read this work and have not yet embraced Christ that you do so. Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you shall be saved.
Our Gracious God and our Savior,
we rejoice in the truth of the Gospel.
We praise You that You have set it forth
so clearly in Your Word.
