Not Put To Shame

For the Scripture says, Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.
Romans 10:11
How certain are the promises of God? Paul has been expounding the gospel in the clearest terms. He began with a thorough explanation of the condemnation under which we all abide. He expounded justification and showed how imputed righteousness has always been the means of the salvation of sinners. He has discussed the implications of the sanctifying work of the Holy Spirit in the life of believers. He has explained how the gospel is for both Jews and Gentiles. This 10th chapter is full of golden assurances for believers. One such assurance is ‘Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.’ This is the reiteration of a promise made in Isaiah, ‘Therefore thus says the Lord God: Behold, I lay in Zion a stone for a foundation, a tried stone, a precious cornerstone, a sure foundation; Whoever believes will not act hastily.’ This is a reference to Christ the Chief Cornerstone. The last phrase is full of meaning. It means that the person who believes in Christ will not panic or fly hastily from the field. That soul will not be shaken or disturbed by the events of life or by the enemies who oppose it. ‘The soul that on Jesus has leaned for repose, I will not, I will not desert to his foes. That soul tho’ all hell should endeavor to shake, I’ll never, no never, no never forsake.’ The promises of God are as certain as He is. Those who believe in Him shall never be ashamed.
Great God of Wonders,
we rejoice that Your promises are sure.
We praise You that we can depend upon You,
all the way to eternity.
