If God Is For Us

What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?
Romans 8:31-32
God is for us. The previous verses articulate it in clear terms. If God were not for us there would be no foreknowledge, no predestination, no calling, no justification, and no glorification. Because He is for us all these things apply to us. The second portion of our text demonstrates the lengths to which God was willing to go to practically effect His purpose for those whom He redeems. In order for Him to accomplish what He has intended for us He sacrificed His only begotten Son. He did not spare Him. He delivered Him up for us all. This is the clearest demonstration of how much He is for us. Who can succeed in taking that away from us? This matters to us, because our natural inclination, once we have faced who we are, is to ask how God could ever be for us. Our enemies prey on those fears. This passage shows us that in spite of the condemnation under which we originally abode, God has overcome all our unworthiness and robed us in the righteousness of Christ. Because He is so overwhelmingly for us we may have confidence we could not have any other way. We have enemies, but they shall not succeed.
Our God of Grace and Glory,
we rejoice that You are for us.
We praise You that because You are,
You will freely give us all things.
