The King Is Coming

And He has on His robe and on His thigh a name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.
Revelation 19:16
The King is coming. Every once in a while, it is good to skip to the end of the book to see that things are going to work out. The 19th chapter of Revelation gives us a preview of the second coming of Christ. Our text lies close to the middle of the description. It is the inscription of Christ’s clothing and upon His thigh. It reads, ‘KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.’ When Christ returns this is how He presents Himself. In the incarnation He presented Himself as the gentle, meek, healer and helper. He came to seek and to save those who were lost. He healed the sick, raised the dead, and identified with the marginalized. He did not seek to be included among the high and mighty. Rather, He made Himself of no reputation and took upon Him the form of a servant. That is not how He will appear at His second coming. Then, the King will come in all the fullness of His rightful position and authority. He will come to do judgment and justice. He will overcome all those who have set themselves up as the high and mighty in the earth. He will appear to set kings and counsellors before Him; to judge them, who have themselves judged others. This is the Christ Who is coming. Even so, come, Lord Jesus.
Our Glorious, Living Savior,
We look forward to the day when the faith shall be sight.
We praise You that You will appear, according to Your word.
