Holy, Holy, Holy

In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lifted up, and the train of His robe filled the temple. Above it stood seraphim; each one had six wings: with two he covered his face, with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. And one cried to another and said: “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; The whole earth is full of His glory!”
Isaiah 6:1-3
We often behold Christ in His humanity. Because the gospels present His humiliation, they depict Him as the babe in the manger, the child in the temple, the itinerate preacher, the friend of publicans and sinners and the suffering Savior. These are all necessary and appropriate depictions of Him. In order to embrace a whole God, a whole Bible, and a whole Christ we need to see Christ in His fullness. The sight of Him Isaiah shows us aids tremendously in that embrace. As Isaiah saw Him, Christ is King, sitting upon His throne in the midst of the temple. This pulls together His kingship and His priesthood. That He is Jehovah is apparent by the reference Isaiah makes when he says, ‘I saw the LORD’ thus using the name Jehovah in reference to Christ. The behavior of the seraphim corroborates Isaiah’s identification of the Person on the throne. They worship Him as the thrice holy Jehovah. They declare that the whole earth is full of His glory. This is the appropriate response to this particular presentation of Christ. He is utterly worthy of our worship. He is utterly worthy of our exaltation. His presence is so overwhelming that, as we see here, the posts of the door shake at the thundering sound of high praise. When we see Christ in this context, it broadens our view of Him. We understand the magnitude of His glory. He is worthy of all our praise.
Our God of Grace and Glory,
we rejoice to see Christ high and lifted up.
We praise You that He is exalted forever.
