King Uzziah Died

In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lifted up, and the train of His robe filled the temple.
Isaiah 6:1
King Uzziah was one of the better kings in the history of the divided kingdom. He came to the throne at sixteen and reigned for more than five decades. He worshipped God, followed Him, and reigned well overall. Later in his reign he became proud and intruded into the office of the priests to burn incense on the altar. God struck him with leprosy which he endured to the end of his life. It was the year he died when Isaiah saw Christ, high and lifted up. What can we draw from this? One thought is that no matter how good any person may be, even in positions of authority, they are at best only human and subject to human foibles. Second, they will have their moment in the sun and then be gone. Third, when they have gone, Christ will remain, high and lifted up. He is that Ruler Who is not subject to human failure. He has no beginning and shall have no end. He has ruled, is ruling, and shall continue to rule. He is, as Revelation describes Him, King of Kings and Lord of Lords. We may admire those who do well overall. We may think of them with high regard and mourn their passing. In Christ, we have the One Who never fails and Who shall live forever.
Our Great and Gracious God,
we rejoice that You are King forever.
We praise You that Your reign shall never end.
