High And Lifted Up

High And Lifted Up

In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lifted up, and the train of His robe filled the temple.

Isaiah 6:1

It is a glorious experience to get a clear sight of Christ. Isaiah had such an experience and shares it with us in the sixth chapter of the book that bears his name. There is no question that he saw Christ. John makes reference to this incident when he quotes a later portion of the passage and then ties it to Christ by saying, ‘These things Isaiah said when he saw His glory and spoke of Him.’ Isaiah saw Christ in His glory sitting upon His throne. It is worth noting that John, who quoted Isaiah, would himself have a clear sight of the exalted Christ when he wrote the Book of Revelation. It is important that we see Christ in His fullness. We must see him as the essential, eternal Son of God. We must see Him as the Word, Who was in the beginning with God. We must see Him as the Creator, without Whom nothing came to be. We must see Him as the Lamb of God, Who takes away the sin of the world. We must see Him as the one Mediator between God and man. In that office, we must see Him as Prophet, Priest, and King. When we have seen Him as King, high and lifted up, we recognize that He rules not just for time, but for eternity. He is no temporary ruler. His Kingdom is forever. We are His people and the sheep of His pasture. He is our once and future King.

High King of Heaven,
we rest on You, our Shield and our Defender.
We look forward to the day when the world will see you,
King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
