Send Me

Also, I heard the voice of the Lord, saying: Whom shall I send, and who will go for Us?
Isaiah 6:8
Some of God’s messengers are willing volunteers. Isaiah was such a person. He received a clear sight of the exalted Christ. That brought him to repentance, confession, and cleansing. God raised his awareness with the question, ‘Whom shall I send and who will go for us?’ To that question, Isaiah responded with, ‘Here am I! Send me.’ Thus, he was a willing volunteer. We might contrast him with Jonah, who received a commission to go and preach to the people of Nineveh and who was decidedly unwilling. Not everyone who is called upon to serve wants to do it. We might compare it to the soldier who volunteers versus the one who is drafted. Both serve, the one willingly and the other not. Isaiah responds to his call with a willing heart, which altogether put him in a better frame of mind to complete the task set before him. We also have a place in the plan and purpose of God. It may not be immediately apparent to us as to what that place is. God may guide us in obvious ways or in ways we do not immediately detect. We can be sure He has a purpose for us to accomplish. Our best response to His revelation of that purpose is, ‘Here am I send me.’
Our Glorious, Sovereign God,
we rejoice that You have a plan for us.
We praise You that You reveal Your will for us
in the fullness of time.
