Who Will Go?

Also, I heard the voice of the Lord, saying: Whom shall I send, and who will go for Us?
Isaiah 6:8
God has a purpose for us as individuals. We have a place in His larger scheme. This sight of Christ which He gave to Isaiah had a specific end goal. First, Isaiah must gain a clear understanding of Christ as the High King of Heaven. This led to his humble confession of sin. That led to his cleansing. Our text today reveals God’s specific purpose for Isaiah. The question sounds rather generic if we read it casually. If we consider that Isaiah comprised an audience of one, the question sounds much more direct. God is about to commission Isaiah as a messenger to his people. If we compare this scene to Christ’s commissioning of His disciples, first in the upper room, and later on the Mount of Olives we see some similarities. God singles out Isaiah as He set apart the disciples. He puts a message in Isaiah’s mouth as He did to them. He sends him forth to the people of Israel. He sent His disciples forth to the whole world. We fit into God’s larger scheme as well. We may not be prophets or missionaries, yet He has a place for us to go and people who need to hear His message. God creates us with purpose and sets His work before us.
Our Good and Wise God,
we rejoice that You have created us for a purpose.
We praise You that You reveal Your will to us
in due course of time.
