I Am My Beloved’s

I am my beloved’s,
And his desire is toward me.
Song of Solomon 7:10
We are Christ’s and Christ is ours. Whatever else we derive from this ancient piece of poetry, we learn that we are His and He is ours. More specifically we come to appreciate how much more thoroughly He loves us, dwells upon us, and desires to be with us. Our text lies at the conclusion of another highly poetic, graphic description of the Bride by her Bridegroom. He praises her extravagantly. She responds with the words of our text. What is beautiful is the utter simplicity of her remark. She declares her complete union with him and His total devotion to her. This is love as it should be. It is the knitting together of two whole persons. They, being two, become one. This is the most exquisite demonstration of true love, of intense desire, and of faithfulness. This gives us a clear picture of our relationship with Christ. We are His in every way. He has demonstrated His love, desire, and faithfulness toward us by all He has done. His incarnation, perfect life, atoning death, miraculous resurrection, perpetual intercession, and glorious return are all proofs of His desire for us. We can barely comprehend such love. He evidences it in so many ways. We can only respond with the simple affirmation, ‘I am my beloved’s, and his desire is toward me.’
Our Loving Savior and our God,
we rejoice at the many ways You demonstrate Your love to us.
We praise You that we have the privilege to be a part
of this loving relationship.
