Make Haste My Beloved

Make Haste My Beloved

Make haste, my beloved, and be like a gazelle or a young stag on the mountains of spices.

Song of Solomon 8:14

Christ’s people want to be with Him. Throughout the generations, they have expressed their desire for His presence. At the dawn of creation, before sin entered, Christ Himself, in pre-incarnate form walked with our first parents in the garden in the cool of the day. The fall disrupted that communion. As the people of faith have followed God throughout the ages, they have had fellowship with Christ. The communion is what they desire. Enoch walked with God. Abraham was the friend of God. Moses spoke with Him face-to-face. These are a few examples of many. The disciples had a front row seat for the public ministry of Christ. After He returned to heaven, they bore witness to Him over the whole of the ancient world, declaring unequivocally that He would return according to His promise. The last quotation of Christ in the Scripture is, ‘Surely I am coming quickly,’ to which John responds, ‘Amen. Even so come, Lord Jesus!’ John speaks for us all. We find that from the Bride of the Song of Solomon through to the last line of Scripture, the people of God desire Christ above all. We live at the end of the age. How close we are remains to be seen. Whether Christ returns within a few years or waits longer, the fact remains, He will return according to His promise. ‘Amen. Even so, come Lord Jesus.’

Our Gracious Master and our God,
we rejoice that You came to accomplish our redemption.
We praise You that You will come again in
power and great glory.
