The Voice

The Voice

You who dwell in the gardens, the companions listen for your voice. Let me hear it!

Song of Solomon 8:13

Christ desires to hear us speak. Our text comes from the mouth of the Bridegroom. He speaks to the Bride to elicit a response from her. He wants others to hear her. The companions who dwell in the gardens, are listening to hear what she will say. Considering what we know about the Bride and the history of her relationship with the Bridegroom, what would we expect from her speech? We should expect that she will make much of her Bridegroom. For all She has said thus far, she has much more to say about Him. Thus, the Bride in the Song of Solomon becomes an example for us. We have much to say about Christ. What we know about Him bears repeating as often, as far, and as widely as we can do it. When Christ was about to ascend from the Mount of Olives, He told His disciples, ‘But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.’ This prophecy came true. We are the spiritual inheritors of His testimony. We are His witnesses. Therefore, it behooves us to make much of Christ. Our witness of Him cannot depend upon the apparent results. It is enough that as the Bridegroom called upon the Bride to speak, so Christ has called upon us to speak of Him. That is all the incentive we need. Christ is the message. He is worthy of our speech.

Our Glorious Living Savior,
we rejoice that You are our greatest subject.
We praise You that we
have the opportunity to speak of You daily.
