I Will Raise Him Up

I Will Raise Him Up

And this is the will of Him who sent Me, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him may have everlasting life; and I will raise him up at the last day.

John 6:40

Christ’s ultimate plans for His people are clear. He made statements that were simple and direct. Our text is one of those statements. He refers to the will of God which is the logical follow-on of His previous remarks. He was discussing doing the will of His Father. He then states definitively, ‘This is the will of the Father who sent Me.’ He declares that God had given Him a people. He says He will not lose anything. Then, He says, ‘I will raise him up on the last day.’ We draw from this, God the Father has given people to Christ, Christ will lose none of those people, and He will raise them from the dead at His return on the last day. This is nearly impossible to misunderstand. The issue is not a lack of understanding, but rather unbelief. His statements are clear. They are unbelievable without faith. If we believe Christ is Who the Scripture presents Him to be, then we also believe His words. If we believe His words, then we believe this clear statement. This gives us validation for who and what we are today. It also gives us hope and anticipation for the future. We do believe. We believe in Christ, in His power to save and keep; and in His return as well as the resurrection that goes with it.

Our Glorious, Living Lord,
we rejoice that You have promised to return.
We praise You, that with that return comes the resurrection.
