Do You Believe?

Jesus heard that they had cast him out; and when He had found him, He said to him, Do you believe in the Son of God? He answered and said, Who is He, Lord, that I may believe in Him? And Jesus said to him, You have both seen Him and it is He who is talking with you. Then he said, Lord, I believe! And he worshiped Him.
John 9:35-38
A personal encounter with Christ is life-changing. The man who was born blind experienced that. He had never seen the light of day, his family’s faces, or the world around him. Christ changed all that for him. In the process of transforming his life, Christ had violated some of the petty regulations of the Jewish religionists. However, when the religionists challenged him about his views of Christ, he defended Him as someone Who had done what no one else in the history of the world had ever done. They were having none of it. Their response to his testimony was to throw him out of the synagogue. Having heard about this, Christ found him and addressed him personally. Our text is the record of that encounter. Christ goes directly to the key point. He asks the man if he believes in the Son of God. The man asks the honest question, ‘Who is He, Lord, that I may believe in Him?’ Christ responds clearly with, ‘You have both seen Him and it is He who is talking with you.’ The man immediately exclaims, ‘Lord, I believe!’ Here is the primary issue for us all. Do we believe in the Son of God? A host of things follow that depending upon how we answer it. It is the watershed issue that all of us must address. Do you believe?
Our Gracious God and our Savior,
we rejoice that You are indeed the Light of the world.
We praise You that wherever You go,
You bring light.
